Build the Lab Your Team Actually Needs
From a single-node skills lab to a multi-site POC environment — we design, build, and automate it. With the workflows to run it.
How an Engagement Works
Each tier is independently purchasable. Start with an Assessment, or go straight to Build if you know what you need.
Assessment
1–2 hour discovery call plus a written environment brief. Understand your goals, constraints, and the right stack before spending anything on hardware or implementation.
Deliverable
Written environment brief: goals, constraints, recommended stack, and a clear tier recommendation.
Design
A complete architecture document and Ansible role inventory. Everything your team needs to build it themselves — or hand back to us for the Build tier.
Deliverable
Network diagram, storage layout, VM template strategy, monitoring plan, and an Ansible role inventory.
Build
Hands-on implementation. We build it, configure it, automate it, and hand it over working — with documentation and playbooks you own.
Deliverable
Working lab environment, Ansible provisioning playbooks, monitoring stack, VLAN segmentation, and handoff documentation.
Included in Every Build Engagement
Ansible Provisioning
VM templates, roles, and playbooks handed off to your team.
Monitoring Stack
Prometheus + Grafana, PBS alerting, and PDM for multi-cluster visibility.
VLAN Segmentation
Basic network segmentation with broad firewall rules to isolate lab traffic.
Stop Testing in Your Head
A personal lab is where skills are built. Not reading about ZFS — configuring it. Not studying Ansible — writing plays that actually run. The lab is where you build the operational instincts that make you a better engineer and a more credible practitioner.
We set you up with a working environment, the automation to rebuild it when something breaks (and something will), and the monitoring to understand what is happening while it runs. What you do with it is up to you.
Good for:
- Learning Proxmox VE, ZFS, and Ansible on real hardware
- Certification preparation with a realistic infrastructure environment
- Testing tools, scripts, and configurations before using them in production
Validate Before You Deploy
Every recommendation you make to a client carries your reputation. A validation lab lets you test every tool, migration procedure, and configuration change in an environment that mirrors the client's — before you touch their network.
We build MSP validation labs designed to simulate multi-client environments: isolated VLANs per simulated client, snapshot-based rollback so you can reset after a test, and monitoring that tells you exactly what a procedure does to the stack. The same lab we use for our own engagements.
Good for:
- Simulating client environments for tool validation before deployment
- Disaster recovery and migration drills before executing against production
- Training new technicians on realistic infrastructure without client exposure
Train on Real Infrastructure
A team training environment is not a simulation. It is a real infrastructure stack — VMs, networks, services — that your staff can break, rebuild, and learn on without any risk to the systems the business depends on.
We build team labs for onboarding, application POC testing, and process validation. When a new hire needs to learn your stack, they learn it here. When you are evaluating a new application, you test it here first. Fast provisioning, snapshot-based rollback, and clear separation from production.
Good for:
- New hire onboarding on realistic infrastructure without production risk
- Application proof-of-concept testing before committing to a purchase
- Security awareness exercises and tabletop simulations on isolated infrastructure
A Pre-Production Environment That Mirrors Production
Mid-market organizations need more than a sandbox. They need a pre-production environment that is structurally identical to production — same cluster topology, same storage architecture, same monitoring — so that changes validated here can be deployed there with confidence.
We design and build multi-node Proxmox clusters with HA, live migration, and tested fencing configurations. The pre-production environment is not a simplified version of production. It is production, without the workloads that matter.
Good for:
- Validating infrastructure changes before production rollout
- HA failover and fencing configuration testing under controlled conditions
- Patch management and update procedures validated on the pre-prod cluster first
Common Questions
What networking is included?
Basic VLAN segmentation with broad, open firewall rules. This isolates lab traffic and provides segment boundaries without requiring detailed network flow discovery. Advanced NAT, inter-VLAN routing, application-specific firewall policies, and precise traffic rules are scoped separately through our Network Design service — each environment is different and requires its own discovery process.
Do you support VMware and Hyper-V labs, or only Proxmox?
All three. We recommend Proxmox VE for new builds — the open licensing model, full feature set, and companion tools (PBS, PDM) make it the strongest choice for most lab contexts. But if your team needs to work in VMware or Hyper-V, we work in those environments too.
Can I start with just the Assessment tier?
Yes. The Assessment engagement produces a written environment brief you can use to move forward with us at the Design or Build tier, or implement yourself. There is no obligation to continue.
